Tour guiding curriculum development Two short-term Tour Guiding, Robert Hicks and Heidi Keyser, joined our team at the end of April 2008. They worked in collaboration with Tour Guiding Technical Workgroups, Employers, the Professional Guides Association and relevant Training Providers and have established very detailed occupational skill standards for Tour Guides for Tanzania and Zanzibar. These Tour Guiding Occupational Standards were agreed after full consultation with stakeholders in July of 2008. The Occupational Standards for Tour Guiding reflect best practices in Tanzania and in Africa today. National curricula with corresponding training materials have now been developed and submitted to NACTE for validation as the National Tour Guiding Curriculum for all of Tanzania. Particular importance has been placed on taking into account local sensitivities with regards to local customs and practices. Currently TTP is identifying suitable training institutions and teachers/trainers who are well resourced and competent to deliver the identified Tour Guiding competencies and skills in line with the proposed new National Tour Guiding Curriculum.
